Teacher: Guinevere Wearne.

I have been practising yoga since 1986, attending Iyengar Yoga classes in Bristol. In 1995 I moved to Ireland, where I went to my first class in the Satyananda Yoga tradition. This holistic system (with a gentle start, yet the sky is the limit!) inspired me to train as a teacher at the Galway School of Yoga and Meditation in Athenry, Co. Galway (accredited by the British Wheel of Yoga). I have taught yoga since completing my training there in 2003.

Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs

In 2014 I trained as a teacher of the specialised Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs programme. This course was the subject of a Randomised Controlled Trial at The University of York (funded by Arthritis Research UK). The positive results of the trial – showing it to be safe and effective – were published in the Annals of Internal Medicine in 2011.

  1. We joined Guinevere’s class after not having practised yoga for sometime – this class has proved a fantastic ‘re-start’. Guinevere is a superb teacher, she has a gentle and calm approach with consideration for all the class members varying abilities and needs. The focus on breath, combined with a careful pace is such that it allows for a good understanding of each position whilst feeling that positive progress is made.
We feel lucky to be part of this class and can recommend it highly to anyone thinking of joining.

    1. Lynda and Philip, thank you for your lovely comments about the class; I’m very pleased that you are enjoying it. I get enormous pleasure from the teaching and your enthusiasm is very encouraging.

  2. I’ve been a member of Guinevere’s classes many times over the years she has been in Ireland. She has a very gentle way of guiding you through the postures correctly. I found that she was always aware of each class member’s abilities and limitations; offering props to enable you to achieve postures you thought you couldn’t, encouraging you gently to hold for just one more second and a constant awareness of each member’s abilities. I found that Guinevere has the rare qualities of gentle care, encouragement and inspiration which has brought me back to her classes each time.
Wishing you huge success in your new ventures Guinevere, you deserve every bit of it.
